Enter To Win!

June 2009

Last contest period's winner received THE 7 GREAT PRAYERS: For a Lifetime of Hope and Blessings by Paul McManus and Tracey McManus and THE MOMENT BETWEEN by Nicole Baart.

Brian Broderson

Learn to Study the Bible by Andy Deane

Rating: 5 Stars

Anything that will help Christian people get more into the word and more out of the word is bound to be a great blessing. This book will do just that. Andy has done a fantastic job of laying out numerous options for Bible Study. I'm sure there's a method here that will be helpful for most everyone who is serious about growing in the Lord through his word.

Kay

The Book of Love by Kathleen McGowan

Rating: 4 Stars

This is the second novel in the Magdalene Line series. While it was more difficult for me to "get into" this book than the first novel in the series, THE EXPECTED ONE, I was soon hooked into the storyline.

Maureen Paschal is having visions and dreams that are leading her to find the lost gospel written by Jesus Christ in his own handwriting. This book goes back and forth between Mathilda in ancient times and Maureen in the present time, working with her uncle to find the lost gospel and stay alive. It is a thrilling and well-written novel.

Pray Big for your Child by Will Davis Jr.

Rating: 5 Stars

Very well done! It goes in depth into how we really should be praying for our children with specific bible verses, and inserting your child's name in as you pray. Very insightful in how he wants us to pray, with examples of situations and how he helped others to pinpoint their prayers for specific needs.

Jason

His Calling by Jason J. Cross

Rating: 5 Stars

His calling was unique and exciting. It's a nice change from the "same old story" novels. Its characters and their development are perfect. Its humor comes in at just the right times. It has action, humor, growth and faith. I guarantee after you read this you will be striking conversation about it for awhile.

R Alexander

Love's Rescue by Tammy Barley

Rating: 5 Stars

If you’re a historical romance fan, pick up this book. Jessica Hale was a heroine with depth and spunk, and I loved her from the first moment. This story has a good message, plus it has fun, unique characters, and it never got dull. The events on and off the ranch were always adventurous. Some of the crazy events included mustangs, bad guys, and the occasional lassoing (and tying up). Just when I thought I could put it down for the night, something else unfolded. I ended up staying up until I finished the whole thing.

While most books like this focus only on romance, this one’s plot is based on the Civil War and real events occurring in the US during that time. It brought in real historical accuracies and still had all the yummy romance. You can’t beat that! So if you’re into historical romance, this one deserves to be in your permanent book collection!

Connie

Danger In The Shadows by Dee Henderson

Rating: 4 Stars

This was an excellent suspense/romance book. Sara is under FBI protection and cannot use her real name anymore. Her home is where they send her and she doesn't stay there very long before she has to move again, fearing that he is going to finish killing her. She was abducted when she was 6 along with her twin sister, who was killed, but she was able to get away. He now sends her packages every so often to remind her he is still out there and not caught. Sara's brother Dave is in the FBI and part of her protection team. Sara meets Adam Blach, a high-profile person, and finds him very attractive but cannot risk being seen or photographed with him. Sara calls on God to help her through several different situations. This was a great suspense book clear to the end with romance and family relationships.

Trusting in the Names of God by Katharine Martin

Rating: 4 Stars

An interesting look into the names and character of God as He reveals himself (Elohim, Adonai,Yahweh). Ann Spangler also has a great year-long study on this topic.

Shadows of Lancaster County by Mindy Starns Clark

Rating: 5 Stars

Mindy's newest mystery, set in the Amish country of Pennsylvania, is a complex story of hidden secrets, a mysterious past, murder, missing persons and DNA research. A can't-put-it-down read of the same caliber as her MILLION DOLLAR MYSTERIES that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Linda

Adam by Ted Dekker

Rating: 5 Stars

Two children abducted. Escape. Their travel into adulthood. Consequences of abuse. A surprise ending. A fascinating, yet very sobering book. It will open your eyes in ways you never thought possible. I highly recommend it to adult readers, possibly high schoolers.

Asha Smith

Pursuit by Karen Robards

Rating: 5 Stars

This is a fast-paced read, especially if you like suspense.

Asha Smith

Prayers For Sale by Sandra Dallas

Rating: 5 Stars

A delightful read filled with everyday human realities.

Becky Griffin

Levi's Will by W, Dale Cramer

Rating: 5 Stars

This is an incredible book. It is the story of a boy who leaves his Amish family and ventures into the world. Mr. Cramer is wonderful at imagery and creating characters that stay with you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys good literature.

Death on a Deadline by Christine Lynxwiler

Rating: 3 Stars

DEATH ON A DEADLINE, DROP DEAD DIVA and DOWN HOME AND DEADLY really need to be read in series order, *and* really need to be read right after each other. So many people and events mentioned in books #1 and #2 are referred to in each succeeding book. If you do not read these in order, you will be totally lost! There is a book #4 but I'm not sure that I will bother reading it. I'm sure that by the time I am able to borrow it from the library, I will find myself totally lost with people and events that have been mentioned in the previous volumes.

Also, I find authors who leave loose ends in their stories not worth my time. Sorry, but that's how I feel.
