Enter To Win!

December 2007

This contest period's winner was Asha, who received HOW STRONG WOMEN PRAY by Bonnie St. John and TILL MORNING IS NIGH: A Wortham Family Christmas by Leisha Kelly.

The Prayer Chest by August Gold & Joel Fotinos

Rating: 5 Stars

A powerful story --- a man destined to die an early death instead loses his God fearing-wife, and is left with two children and a bleak future. After the bank manager forecloses on his farm, he finds a old wooden box in his attic --- the beginning of a life-changing adventure for everyone. I could not put this book down!

Pure and Simple Devotions by Marisa Gary

Rating: 4 Stars

I loved the readability of this book. The devotions were great and the photography was even better. The devotions are very honest and I could easily relate.

C. Taylor

The Rape of Innocence: Taking Captivity Captive by Lacresha Hayes

Rating: 5 Stars

This book is one of the best survivors' stories I've ever read. Hayes talked about surviving rape, molestation and domestic violence. She is now a business owner and author. The things she went through, like being raped by a traveling minister, should have pushed her away from God, but she grew closer. I loved the book.

Cathy H. VanDervort (cvandervort@icbooks.com)

Snow Angel by Jamie Carie

Rating: 5 Stars

Good read by a first-time novelist about a child forced into an orphanage and her growing years during the Alaskan Gold Rush. The characters are well developed, the storyline easy to follow, and the romance tastefully done.

What is a Healthy Church by Mark Dever

Rating: 4 Stars

Are you satisfied with your church?
Is it on target? Should you leave or encourage? A 124-page must read for every Christian --- not just pastors.

Cathy (cvandervort@icbooks.com)

Remember Me by Maureen Lang

Rating: 4 Stars

Read this historical novel from the World War I era, and thrill to see what comes from early childhood training and a parent's love.

Room of Marvels by James Bryan Smith

Rating: 4 Stars

Do you think you don't make a difference in people's lives? Read this novel, then consider what impact you and your prayers might be having in the lives of others. I love novels that compel me to live a deeper Christian life!

Jamaican Me Crazy by Debbie Digiovanni

Rating: 5 Stars

Had enough of the Christmas rush?
Step out with these girls sister-chick style and get things back in focus.

JaneAnn Railey

A Week From Sunday by Dorothy Garlock

Rating: 5 Stars

I couldn't put it down. As usual, she is great writing stories of early America in the 30s. If you haven't picked up one of her books, you don't know what you're missing. Never a bad one.

Asha Smith

The Elevator by Angela Hunt

Rating: 4 Stars

Wrong choices and deception destroy lives, even to the point of death. Angela Hunt combines suspense, friendship, deception and distrust to connect three seemingly different and unsuspecting to one man. A good read.

Asha Smith

When Christmas Comes by Debbie Macomber

Rating: 5 Stars

It all started because Emily didn't want to be alone at Christmas. Her best friend goes to keep her company, but everything that can go wrong does. However, in the end, everything turns out ok, because love always wins!!

TP

Going for Broke by Melaine Dobson

Rating: 4 Stars

This is the first book I've read in which the character becomes addicted to gambling and is a Christian. I thought it was very realistic.

Ruth

Next Door Savior by Max Lucado

Rating: 4 Stars

This author has a unique way of helping the reader relate to Jesus and the Bible.

Stephanie

Finding Alice by Melody Carlson

Rating: 4 Stars

An intriguing book about a young woman with schizophrenia. This author is really good at putting the reader in the character's mind. It is difficult to read at some points because of the subject matter, but it is also very inspirational because it shows the nature of God's love and protection. My reading group liked it.

The Choice by Nicholas Sparks

Rating: 3 Stars

THE CHOICE throws out the question: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?

I have loved all of Sparks's other books; however, this book was predictable. I wish he dealt with the present day more than the past. I would not recommend this book to my teen or my grandmother.
