Ascending in Warship: Descending in War by Chuck D. Pierce with John Dickson |
|
Rating: 5 Stars |
It's time we took the right way and gave God the place due to Him by Worship. This book is moving me to worship God --- to praise him, which opens the door to step in and fight our battles. California fire, drugs in school, and bitterness in believers are a few from the mount of battles before us believers.

When a farm family loses the land that provides their livelihood, their faith is challenged. The daughter falls under the spell of a cultish older neighbor, the son appears in full goth regalia, and the parents' marriage is tested. The healing service they are encouraged to attend brings tears and hope. One of my book club members whose family also faced this tragedy said the characters and situation were expertly and sympathetically drawn.

Pieces of my Sister's Life by Elizabeth Joy Arnold |

Very thought-provoking read. Although some readers might be offended at some of the language and sexual material, I found that this made one think about the nature of forgiveness and the process required for redemption. Sometimes, redemption arrives disguised.

The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Decked Out by Neta Jackson |

This is the last book in this series, and I was so sad to have it end! Neta ties up lots of loose ends, and makes you want the next series to begin!

Heaven by Randy Alcorn |
|
Rating: 5 Stars |
This book made me long for heaven. I have to admit I didn't really long for heaven before, but the alternative (Hell) is so horrible that I wanted Heaven more. Now I understand that Heaven will be familiar --- all the good parts of life now without sin. I can't wait! It really made me think about what I believe about Heaven and what the Bible tells us about Heaven. We learn so little about it. Often, we study Revelation but don't study about Heaven. It is so interesting to study. Alcorn backs everything up with Scripture so that you end up wondering why didn't you know this.

I love, love, love this book! Alcorn interweaves so much about heaven in this book. And, it is not all walking on clouds either --- that would be boring and Heaven will not be boring. The mystery is great and the characters are so real. I can't wait to read the next two books in this series.

Very engaging novel but the subject matter is not always pretty. Real life seldom is always pretty, is it. I wholly recommend this book.

Courting Trouble by Deeanne Gist |

Essie is almost 30 years old and has decided to stop waiting on the Lord to provide her with a husband, so she's out to find one on her own. This leads to pure comedy and disaster. I highly recommend Essie and her romantic escapades to all.
