Enter To Win!

August 2007

This contest period's winner was Carmen, who received COURTING TROUBLE by Deeanne Gist and CATCH A RISING STAR by Tracey Bateman.

Dorothy Flood

High Noon by Nora Roberts

Rating: 3 Stars

I found this to be too repetitive. It was good and I enjoyed it, but it was slow. It was not up to par with the usual Nora Roberts novels.

Celia Javadi

Light from Heaven by Jan Karon

Rating: 5 Stars

A lovely Christian book by a lovely Christian author. Moments of peace are captured with such detail that the peace melts into the soul.

Celia Javadi

The Daughters of Lancaster County Trilogy by Wanda Brunstetter

Rating: 4 Stars

These books cover the same basic subject matter as material written by Beverly Lewis. A good Christian read.

Comilla (cleaf77@aol.com)

The Watchers by Mark Andrew Olsen

Rating: 5 Stars

If you like suspense and intrigue with supernatural elements, than this is the one.

Gail

Moon Over Tokyo by Siri L. Mitchell

Rating: 5 Stars

I am a big fan of Siri L. Mitchell because she has the ability to make readers feel like they are really in the book's setting. In this case, it is Tokyo, in the story of a young woman who thinks she is living life on the edge as a reporter for "Stars and Stripes" while living on a military base in Japan. Allie prays for a new friend who lives close to her, and quickly runs into an old high school nemesis, who now lives in her neighborhood, at church one Sunday. But Eric is not the friend she prayed for! Allie learns in the novel that people are not always who she thinks they are, including herself.

Carmen Redding

The Road to Home by Vanessa del Fabbro

Rating: 5 Stars

South African journalist Monica Brunetti is living in South Africa during the transition from Nelson Mandela's term to a new government. After becoming a victim of a carjacking and being taken to a black hospital, she learns about an African experience from which she has been sheltered and develops a friendship that will test her commitment and strengthen her faith. This is one of the best books I've read recently.

Carmen Redding

A Woman's Place by Lynn Austin

Rating: 5 Stars

World War II changes the lives of four women (a timid housewife, a single school teacher, a young wife with a husband in the marines, and an aspiring college student). They test their strength and resilience by working in a shipyard and struggling with faith, family, and even racial issues while the war rages overseas. I loved this book because it is relevant today as women try to find their identity and keep the faith in a changing world.

Kathleen Green

Miss Katie's Rosewood by Michael Phillips

Rating: 5 Stars

The whole seris is great, you've got to read it.

JaneAnn Railey

Virgin River Trilogy by Robyn Carr

Rating: 5 Stars

From the first page, I was drawn into this small community and lived with them for five days. My hubby was lucky I cooked, because I just couldn't quit reading. Now I'm lookin for more by this author. Why have I never heard of her before?

Linda V.

Rekindled by Tamera Alexander

Rating: 5 Stars

I just finished this book and couldn't put it down! I have already started the next one, REVEALED. This is a story of forgiveness, honesty, and relationships. You felt like you were actually living it with them. Things never happened like you expected them to. There's something for everyone!

Linda V

Summer Breeze by Catherine Palmer and Gary Chapman

Rating: 4 Stars

SUMMER BREEZE is the second book in this series. It's about a down-to-earth marriage relationships. Each book focuses on a different couple in a small-town setting. Though there are many humorous parts, each situation is very typical of married life. These books teach a lot about relationships and how to work problems out. Definetly a must read!

Kim

Eve's Daughters by Lynn Austin

Rating: 5 Stars

I loved the characters in this book. They are several women from the same family, though from different generations. I really cared for these women and hated to see their story end.

Mell (AGreatYarn@gmail.com)

Found by Karen Kingsbury

Rating: 5 Stars

I am reading the First Born series by Karen Kingsbury. They are captivating and wonderfully written. I can't seem to put them down.

A wells (apwrncs@bellsouth.net)

To My Senses by Alexandrea Weis

Rating: 5 Stars

A compelling love story set in pre-Katrina New Orleans high society. It's a funny, witty book that you will remember for a long time. The characters are great and well written. I'm looking for more from this writer. Read it, you will thank me!

CeeCee

Peace Like a River by Leif Enger

Rating: 5 Stars

This coming-of-age story includes family loyalty, a glimpse of the miraculous, the inevitability of grace, and the joy of being loved just as you are.

Dorothy

Saving Sailor by Renee Riva

Rating: 4 Stars

A great story about a spunky girl, her eccentric family and the happenings of one summer in the 1960s.

Dorothy

Summer of Light by W.Dale Cramer

Rating: 4 Stars

I have enjoyed all of this author's books and this is no exception. Good reading.

TP

Forever by Karen Kingsbury

Rating: 3 Stars

FOREVER is the last book in the Firstborn series about the Baxter family. It was an okay read, but it repeats a lot of content from her previous books in the series. I' was a little irritated that everything was wrapped quickly and neatly as usual. I recommend getting the book from the library.

Jill F.

Revealed by Tamera Alexander

Rating: 5 Stars

A wonderful, exciting book about forgiving others and past mistakes of your own. I cannot wait to read REMEMBERED.

Terri Buxani

The Candidate by Susan Wales and Robin Shope

Rating: 5 Stars

If you like good, fast-paced mysteries and romance novels, I suggest you read THE CANDIDATE. I had read the other two novels by these authors and could not wait to read this book. It was worth the wait. I enjoyed the way it was written and was very surprised by the ending. I also loved the hometown feel the book gave me. If you want an enjoyable book, sit back and read this one. You will not be disappointed.

Tammy Banks

Psalms For Today by Wilson Crawford

Rating: 5 Stars

This is a small collection of "Psalms" that are the author's own meditations, thoughts and prayers written in today's language about today's problems. A friend recommended it to me and I have found it very inspirational and helpful, first during a difficult time, then just day to day. The author makes it clear these are not to replace the Psalms of the Bible, which is God's holy word.
