Under Every Green Tree by Evelyn Allen

Rating: 4 Stars

If you like Jan Karon novels, you will love UNDER EVERY GREEN TREE. This book has many good reviews.

Starfreedom (starfreedom@cableone.net)

A Daughter of Zion by Bodie and Brock Thoene

Rating: 5 Stars

This book, like every other book I have ready by the Thoenes, is excellent. I am drawn in to an enjoyable story that evokes a gamut of feeling, and at the same time, my faith is strengthened and my knowledge of history is expanded.

Nicholas Alsop (nalsop@familylife.com)

Life Lessons from the Princess and the Kiss by Jennie Bishop and Susan Henson

Rating: 5 Stars

This delightful workbook is full of 21 Life Lessons drawn directly from the original volume by Jennie Bishop, and will help any parent train their daughter and interact with her as she discovers the importance of the Kiss (her purity) and how to protect it.

The Initmate Mystery by Dan Allender and Tremper Longman III

Rating: 5 Stars

I have read many many books about marriage in my 38 years of marriage. This one if the best, most concise, clearest, most hopeful one of them all. I love it that the authors do not pretend to have perfect marriages. What they do propose is that marriage is the best opportunity we have on this earth to mirror who God is with us.

A Light for My Path by Lynne Austin

Rating: 5 Stars

This story, told from the view point of several slaves caught in the upheaval of the American Civil War, made me think, caused me pain and sadness, and ultimately made me rejoice at the redeeming power of Jesus Christ in the midst of the most horrendous of circumstances.

Rita Bulington

Ester's Child by Jean P. Sassoon

Rating: 5 Stars

The best fictional story of the Holocaust that I have ever read. It gives me chills in places. Definitely a page turner!!

Get Out of That Pit! by Beth Moore

Rating: 5 Stars

Once again, Beth Moore has written a totally God-soaked book of wisdom. Her passion for God just lights up the pages, and I found myself longing to read without stopping.

I loved that Beth's writing made it seem as if she were right in the room with me, having a girl-to-girl chat. But, she didn't mince words, either. She told it just like it is, without pussy-footing around issues.

As a result, I feel that I can see "light at the end of the tunnel" (or, should I say, at the top of my pit?!) I am closer to deliverance, praise God!

Throughout the book, Beth stresses that it doesn't matter whether you were thrown in the pit, or slipped into it, or just plain jumped in ... you can be delivered! God wants us all to be free ... "You shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall set you free!" (John 8:32)

The Heir by Paul Robertson

Rating: 4 Stars

When billionaire Melvin Boyer dies in a car crash, his son Jason inherits his fortune. Jason is now the not-so-proud owner of "half the state" and his father's wealth. His wife is thrilled, but all Jason can think is "I don't want this."

As Jason struggles to decide what to do, more people connected with the Boyer family are dying --- are the deaths really just "accidents," or is someone sending Jason a message?

This book was an excellent, quick-paced read. The only qualms I had with it were that the characters' dialogue seemed a bit curt/choppy, and the ending seemed to be tied up a little too neatly. Otherwise, though, it was a great mystery... I had an idea of who-dunnit, but I couldn't figure it out! :o)

This is Robertson's first novel, and I'd say he did a pretty good job. I'd be willing to try more by him.

Rated: B

White Chocolate Moments by Lori Wick

Rating: 3 Stars

It's rather slow, and I'm not sure where exactly it's going to go, but I'll keep reading it until it's finished.

Mary

Lanterns and Lace by DiAnn Mills

Rating: 5 Stars

This is a very good book, the second in Diann Mills' Texas Legacy. It has romantic and suspenseful, and is set in a small Texas town in the 1800s. I am looking forward to reading the next novel in this series.

More Than A Slave by Margaret Pagan

Rating: 5 Stars

Author Margaret Pagan captures the imagination of the reader as she passionately writes about Katy Ferguson, a slave girl who became the founder of New York's first Sunday School.

AP

A Woman's Place by Lynn Austin

Rating: 4 Stars

This is a story about how 4 female co-workers of different ages and backgrounds cope during World War II.

I recommend it, although the women seem very naive about issues they should know about, given the times.
