Enter To Win!

October 2006

This contest period's winner was Angela, who received a copy of BABYLON RISING: The Edge of Darkness by Tim LaHaye and Bob Phillips.

Lori Kasbeer

Epicenter by Joel C. Rosenberg

Rating: 5 Stars

A must read for current events!

Becky Randolph (ldycheroke57@yahoo.com)

The Regime by Tim LaHaye & Jerry B. Jenkins

Rating: 4 Stars

THE REGIME is the 2nd book in prequel series to the original Left Behind series. It's every bit as well written and exciting as the original series.

Jennifer Hudson Taylor

Did I Kiss Marriage Goodbye? by Carolyn McCulley and Joshua Harris

Rating: 5 Stars

A hugely encouraging book for single women!!

Judy Grivas

When the Heart Cries by Cindy Woodsmall

Rating: 5 Stars

This first novel for Cindy introduces us to 17-year-old Hannah --- who is Amish --- and Paul, her college-aged Mennonite boyfriend. When they become engaged, they think that their greatest obstacle will be trying to get approval from Hannah's father. However, something terrible happens to Hannah and she is faced with losing her family, her faith, and Paul as she tries to come to grips with something she was never prepared to face. This is a terrific book, and there are 2 more coming in the Sisters of the Quilt series.

Emily Ever After by Anne Dayton and May Vanderbilt

Rating: 4 Stars

A fun read; this is my first foray into Christain Chick Lit, which I didn't know existed until this was recommended by a friend. The plot is what one would expect from modern chick lit (young single girl on her way up the corporate ladder seeks eligible male, honest girlfriends, and a little fun in her off time). The difference is that she holds up her morals in the face of non-Christian co-workers who spend their weekends drinking and bad-mouthing people at the office. Poor Emily wants to fit in, but she refuses to sleep with her boyfriend (who calls himself a Christian but one is left wondering) or get sloshed at bars with the girls. She misses her family in California, but is determined to make her way in Manhattan. I REALLY liked this girl!

EMILY EVER AFTER is a wonderful story (Emily makes a couple of mistakes she regrets along the way, but nothing she can't learn from) with a feel-good ending. I highly recommend it!

Betty

The Regime by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins

Rating: 3 Stars

This is the second prequel to the Left Behind series. My husband and I were once again disappointed in this book, as we were in the first prequel.

The Steele family --- Irene, Rayford, Chloe, and Raymie --- attend a boring, liberal church out of duty. When Irene becomes a born-again Christian through her friend, she wants the whole family to start attending a church where the Bible is taught and God is worshipped. Rayford refuses to have anyone in his family attend another church and keeps making excuses why he can't, or won't, attend the church he has chosen for his family. Irene and the kids attend every Sunday, but soon Chloe drops out. Throughout the rest of the book, Irene badgers Rayford about becoming a Christian and being able to attend her friend's church. As you would expect, this causes a rift in their marriage.

The thing we did not like about this book was the fact that Irene continued to demand that she be allowed to attend the church of her choice and that Rayford become a Christian. I was taught that that was the wrong way to go about winning someone to the Lord. She, in her actions, was pushing Rayford away and making the rift in their marriage larger.

Of course, the book wasn't entirely about the Steele family. The story follows the life of Nicolae Carpathia and shows that he was a scumbag even in his young adult life, causing deliberate deaths of his enemies. What a horrible, horrible man!

The Copper Scroll by Joel C. Rosenberg

Rating: 5 Stars

A great prophetic book, with edge-of-your-seat action.
