I just finished reading the book When Joy Came to Stay by Karen Kingsbury. It was a heartbreaking story, but an excellent one. The main character is overwhelmed with guilt over a bad choice made in her past. Ms. Kingsbury faces the subject of deep depression in this Christian woman, who thankfully, gets the help she needs. This is a book worth reading.

The Conspiracy Club by Jonathan Kellerman. 3 stars.
It is not a Dr. Delaware book, but a good one in its own right. I finished it in a couple of days.

Valerie.Russo@thomson.com
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, translated by Lucia Graves.
Best book I have read all year!

By far and away, my favorite book of the summer is Place of Sage by Lyn D. Nielsen. The story is about a road trip taken by a mom and her teenage daughter. During the trip, the daughter presses her mom to tell a family story that she has been avoiding for years.

I have lent my copy to family and friends and all have seemed to feel the same way that I do --- that this is a touching story of love, hope, healing, and spirituality that crosses all earthly obstacles.

I would give this book a FIVE-STAR rating and recommend it to everyone from teenagers to those in their twilight years.

Dinner With a Perfect Stranger by David Gregory. 3 stars.

I just finished Home Town Tales by Philip Gulley. I loved every word of it. There were times I laughed out loud and actually could not breathe I was laughing so hard. I had not done that since the Red Skelton show. Then, there were the times when I caught my breath with the wonderful love of God that Mr. Gulley brings forth in his stories. I would heartily recommend this book and any other book Mr. Gulley writes. 5 stars.

The two books that I've just recently read and couldn't put down were Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller and Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge.

I have one of Donald Miller's other books, Searching For God Knows What, and my daughter says it's even better than Blue Like Jazz ... so I'll let you know about that one, too!!

The Da Vinci Code. Still the best for spiritual mixed with adventure and science fiction.

I am currently reading:
Levi's Will by W. Dale Cramer. 5 stars.
This book about a young man who leaves his Amish community and makes his way in the world is a fascinating study of human nature. It makes you realize that we are all God's children and we are all flawed in one way or another. A wonderful story.

Also just finished:
The Revelation by Beverly Lewis. 4 stars.
This is the final book in the Abram's Daughters series. I really enjoyed this series. I got attached to Sadie and Leah. It was good to see that things do have a way of working out.

And also:
At the Scent of Water by Linda Nichols. 4 1/2 stars.
The story of Sam and Annie was well-written. It brought to mind the issue that we saw in the news most of the summer. I think a lot of people will be making out living wills after this. Good book as usual with this author.

I am about to start:
So Help Me God by Larry D. Thompson. It's about a trial and it centers on the abortion issue and when life begins.

There's nothing like a series of books that leaves one with more questions than answers. In the case of Black, Red and White by Ted Dekker, that is not a bad thing. No one in Christian literature has written with this kind of depth and insightful allegory since C.S. Lewis. The Circle Trilogy forces the reader to answer some hard questions for himself. As one who has only recently embraced "The Great Romance," this trilogy was the ticket for me.

Resolved by Robert Tannenbaum. 5 stars.
Fatal Tide by Iris Johansen. 4 stars.
Coyote by Linda Barnes. 4 stars.

Once a Parent, Always a Parent by Stephen A. Bly. 5 stars.
Parenting never ends, you just exchange one set of challenges for another. With two daughters on the brink of adulthood, I found a lot of reassuring advice in this book.

fochler@erols.com
While these are older books, I have truly enjoyed them.
Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson. 3 stars.
Because I Said So by Kate Moses and Camille Peri. 4 stars.
A book about mothers --- very good stories.
The Saints and Sinner of Okay County by Dayna Dunbar. 3 stars.
Friendship Cake by Lynne Hinton. 5 stars.
My favorite of the group.
